Create a Handy Ruler and Color Chart from Shrink Paper for all Your Shrink Art Crafts – #NapCrafts

Today’s post is inspired by naptime! I don’t know about your kiddo, but mine is slowly weaning away from taking a nap. He usually naps anywhere from an hour to and hour and a half nowadays, and with his school schedule changing come the fall, I still want to get in some quick crafting wins before he decides to drop naps entirely.

I’m titling this series #NapCrafts because I want these crafts to be achievable (clean up and all) in under an hour. That way you can enjoy crafting during your alone time without the stress of tidying before your mini-manager demands why you have paint out and they can’t join in. I totally get it! Let me just say that my boss is bossy too!

Let’s get to it!

After posting about the Father’s Day Keychain, I decided to go to Walmart and purchase some alcohol based markers. I chose the Azure brand. I opted for their 24 pack just in case I didn’t like them, but they do offer the packs in greater counts if you’re interested!

I saw this nifty trick on Pinterest the other day to create a ruler using the full length your shrink paper. In my case, that’s 10 inches. Once it shrinks down, you can hang it on a keychain, hook, or just keep it close by your desk for reference.

You’ll use the shrunken ruler to determine the size of keychain charm, bracelet charm, or earring charm you’re wanting to make. Say you want the final piece to shrink to the 3rd mark on your ruler, then you know to create design 3″ wide.

In the video, she makes color swatches right on the ruler. Since I have 24 colors, I decided to make a separate swatch board! For this, I created two columns of 12 boxes, colored in the boxes, and labeled them with their names.

Once the color swatch board shrinks, you can see how vivid the alcohol based colors are. This will help you make adjustments for any future crafts.

And that’s it! With a little measuring, coloring, and shrinking, you have two handy tools to craft with. Enjoy!

Thanks for crafting with me today! I’d love to see how your project turned out, so share a photo in the comments and tell me your favorite part of the process. What would you like to make next? Until next time, friends!
